Madonna made a star appearance in Dolce & Gabbana’s front row during Milan Fashion Week on Saturday for a collection that felt like a conversation with the Material Girl herself.

To the backdrop of her hit “You’ll See,” Madonna and her boyfriend Akeem Morris were ushered to their seats next to Vogue’s Anna Wintour just as the Fall-Winter 2026-27 show was about to begin. Other front row guests couldn’t resist recording the moment as she hugged actor Alberto Guerra, with whom she recently shot a Dolce & Gabbana campaign.

Madonna, 67, has been a Dolce & Gabbana icon since the 1990s, with key moments including wearing a bodice by the duo studded with colored stones and crystals for the 1991 New York preview of the film “Truth or Dare.”

The designers also created costumes for the Erotica tour in 1992 and the Drowned World Tour in 2001.

Madonna last appeared at the Dolce & Gabbana showroom for the Spring-Summer 2025 collection, wearing a lace veil. This time, her infamous blonde locks were loose. She wore a black blazer over a dark minidress, with turquoise leather gloves giving the only color pop.

Designer Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s collection for next fall and winter featured transparent lace dresses and skirts reminiscent of Madonna’s early aesthetic and big-shouldered pinstriped suits that recalled her Vogue music video. The collection also featured big faux furs and animal prints.

Models gave a little twirl in front of Madonna and Wintour, making sure they caught the mirrored double-breasted suits with lapels on both the front and the back. Both style-makers wore dark sunglasses as they squatted in the low front-row seats, Madonna wrapping her arms around her legs. Attentive during the show, they privately exchanged impressions at the end.

After the show, the designers walked down the runway to embrace the Queen of Pop and then whisked her backstage.

Outside, hundreds of fans gathered to catch Madonna and other stars who packed the front row. They included singers Hikaru Iwamoto of Japan, Choi San of South Korea and Achille Lauro of Italy.

Set in the shadow of classical statuary, Demna offered a new vision for Gucci during Milan Fashion Week on Friday starting with a skin-tight white minidress and clean muscle T-shirts showing off the chiseled human form.

He called the looks palette cleansers, and the models moved with morning-after swagger. The body-con silhouette transitioned into slim trousers and tops for him, leggings and long clingy dresses for her — very much evoking Tom Ford’s sex-fueled Gucci heyday.

There were also a couple of nods to more recent Gucci alum Alessandro Michele, Valentino’s creative director who had a front-row seat and once collaborated with Demna when he was at Balenciaga. Those tributes included a floral gown, a daysuit with a pussybow and furry slip-on shoes.

Demna is in full embrace of the archetype and his notion of classical sensuality came through in an asymmetrical white dress that draped and opened into a full slit. Some classic Gucci mainstays were in short supply, like overcoats and suits. The collection was also light on Gucci branding.

Other archetypes, or less flatteringly put stereotypes, included reference to the sciura, or posh Milanese upper-class women in pretty dresses topped with eco-fur stoles, at odds with the so-called maranza, suburban males known for their long on top, buzz-cut sides hairdos, sagging pants and slouching walk — all on display on the Gucci runway.

Kate Moss closed the show in a glittering evening gown that plunged in the back to reveal a double-G-branded thong. Moss moved sensually down the long, dark runway, soaking in the moment.

Demna titled his first runway show for Gucci “Primavera,” Italian for “spring,” suggesting both a new season but also taking inspiration from Sandro Botticelli’s masterpiece hanging in Florence’s Uffizi, and an inspiration for Gucci’s floral patterns — seen primarily in the Gucci gown.

The designer took immediate distance from any intellectual parsing of his message, and cut any links between Gucci and high fashion.

In notes, Demna said the collection “is built around a sense of pragmatism.’’ He said he wanted his Gucci “to become lighter, softer, more refined, more elaborate, more emotional, even senseless sometimes. I don’t want Gucci to be intellectual, but I want Gucci to be a feeling.”

Translation: Gucci is for the masses — at least those who can afford it — and not for the rarified couture world. In that vein, Gucci announced that some of the collection would be available for immediate sale in the see-now, buy-now formula.

“My vision of Gucci is about the coexistence of heritage and fashion … Gucci only exists when both are in sync,’’ Demna wrote. “This first Gucci show introduces a universe of people, archetypes, consumers and dress codes that will shape my design language moving forward.’’

Front row guests included Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Donatella Versace and Demi Moore — who arrived in a fitted leather ensemble carrying her dog Pilaf.

What makes a purchase “worth it”? The answer is different for everybody, so we’re asking some of the coolest, most shopping-savvy people we know—from small-business owners to designers, artists, and actors—to tell us the story behind one of their most prized possessions.

Who?

Phoebe Sung and Peter Buer met and fell in love as fashion school students in mid-aughts Boston. After they graduated, the couple began to craft together as a way to decompress from their corporate fashion jobs. They made jewelry, then bags, then home goods like wall hangings, which were ultimately the gateway to launching their now-beloved New York–based textile brand Cold Picnic.

Phoebe and Peter in their Ridgewood home

Since 2010, Phoebe and Peter have been designing colorful, abstract rugs and bath mats that double as works of art. Nearly every collection is informed by old movies, either in composition (they print out stills and trace shapes over them) or palette (think retro hues). “There was one series of films that we were really inspired by that were all set in the desert, so the colors were very chalky and powdery but still saturated,” Phoebe shares. “We still use a lot of peaches and mints and citrons and tans.”

What?

The couple’s 1910s Ridgewood, Queens, home is filled with their own creations, including a HAY sofa (the Mags Soft Low sectional to be exact) that they reupholstered using hand-tufted rugs after the sofa’s original pink tweed got ruined. “We were trying to think of what kind of upholstery we could actually live with and the rugs are pretty durable,” Phoebe says. “We thought that something a little bit heartier with a lot of color and design would survive our family.”

For the sofa’s seat and back cushions, Phoebe and Peter chose designs from their Beau Travail collections, which are an homage to the Claire Denis film of the same name. But instead of using the handmade, high-low pile wool rugs that are sold on the Cold Picnic website, Peter tufted the rugs himself—twice. “He bought a frame and a gun and he watched all these videos, but we used the wrong glue backing, so it was too stiff and he had to do it all over again,” Phoebe laments.

Where and When?

Peter undertook this grueling project at home in 2021—injuring his back in the process. “Everything he does, he does very intensely. He just wanted to finish it, but then he put his back out and couldn’t walk or get out of bed for a week after. He paid for it, but it was worth it,” Phoebe says, adding that a local upholsterer then covered the HAY sofa in the hand-tufted rugs and a greenish-mustard wide wale corduroy.

Why?

In addition to being durable and stylish, the one of a kind sectional holds lots of sentimental value for the couple. “I actually had a mustard corduroy sofa growing up, so it’s nostalgic, but it is our take on it,” Phoebe explains. “And that’s how we think about designing. That’s why we always use old movies and these ’70s powdery palettes. It’s exactly our personal style, which is hard to encapsulate.”

Phoebe and Peter paired their special sofa with one of the rugs that’s featured in the design, the Denis Denis, as well as a vintage coffee table, a Noguchi-style pendant, and a papier-mâché tulip lamp they made during the pandemic. “We thought using one of the rugs that it was based on would be too much, so we made a brown rug to go with it, but actually that was too much,” Phoebe says. “The effect was more low-key when we just really went for it and did the whole room in the same print.”
